So it is astonishing to witness the about-face that has accompanied the influx of white professionals in the past decade. Now there are urban-friendly transportation policies, lavish corporate spending on education and billions in private real estate investment and development. As residents finally get the city they have always deserved, many black Washingtonians are feeling the rage of the loyal first wife, kicked to the curb as soon as things started looking up." http://nyti.ms/LGV8Mc

Re: http://tariqwest.tumblr.com/post/14174119715

I totally understand the frustrations of the men, I really do feel for yall. When I was on OKC, I would strive to respond to messages of the nice guys at least 90% of the time. It got a bit out of hand after a while because my inbox would get flooded-- but I saw responding as a way to not diminish their morale when approaching other ladies. I was personally never discouraged with OKC because I learned a few tricks right away that I try to pass on to others using the site: you can gain their algorithm in question answering and be always higher in searches. As a woman, you can choose to take the full reigns in approaching other men, and really only interact seriously with the ones YOU messaged first. This kept my inbox really limited and I only concentrated on that handful of prospects that I thought were really solid matches. I'm sure there's tricks that men can design to improve their experience. I agree this ranking system of messages would increase overall interactions tremendously.

Re: http://tariqwest.tumblr.com/post/12838707659

Lol im wirting an essay on this atm

Re: The Souls of DC Folk

I'm glad you're there with me Mike, thanks for reading!

Re: The Souls of DC Folk

I am moved that you are moved. I am a native, 4th generation and *this* is what I've been trying to say, all this time. My grandparents were raised & lived here. My parents were, as was I and my siblings. I'm here now with my children. I toddled over the wreckage of the '68 riots in the 70s, dodged bullets like mosquitoes as a teen in the 90s and strolled my own babies through the reconstruction of the early years of the 21st century. Reconstruction that doesn't welcome us at all. I am DC. I love it here and yes, I am crying.

Re: The Souls of DC Folk

It makes my eyes water reading this because it is true and I don't want it to change forever and be forgotten. Social media requires a bit of "controversy" in your comments or posts to start the ball rolling....too much nuance turns you into a dull wallflower, basically wasting the entire point of communicating with a community

Re: http://tariqwest.tumblr.com/post/749917297

Damn, I was a slacker by comparison. There is already this strong bond b/w your family members & u , and i guess at some level all of u realize how distances can impact ur relationships with each other. true that people are now substituting real life interactions for virtual ones, and that digital technology is eating away the time families spend with each other. but then theres another set of people who are
embracing technology to do the exact opposite- like u they are keeping it in the family.

~Sadya

Re: http://tariqwest.tumblr.com/post/601522734

Tim Wise, certainly not timid, but blessed with the wisdom of a sage, offers up this question regarding tea party activity....

Tim Wise: Imagine if the Tea Party was Black - DC Civil Rights Examiner

http://www.examiner.com/x-4...

cut and paste for a contemplative look at this subject....

Re: Digital Camera + Facebook + Alcohol = Augmented Reality

Perfect lead in to provide me with an opportunity to reaffirm my trepidation with the complete use of FB and other internet sites for the recording of events that should be kept to personal review and not the universe of the internet.

A colleague posted this (and so did I thereafter) article...timely, no doubt as legions of college students leave their campuses for summer or next stage beginning jobs and careers...take heed if you haven't already realized the seriousness of this...

DO'S AND DONT'S FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS USING SOCIAL MEDIA... cut and paste if not able to directly link.

http://www.usnews.com/artic...
